Hungary ranked 37 in Global Startup Rankings of 2020!
We are excited to share the Startup Ecosystem Rankings 2020 report, ranking the startup ecosystems of 100 countries and 1,000 cities. The ranking algorithm was built by StartupBlink in cooperation with our Global Data Partners at CrunchBase, Semrush, UNAIDS, and Meetup. The report was also joined by more than 40 governments, municipalities, and economic development organizations.
It is the most comprehensive rankings of the global startup ecosystem done to date. The company’s previous reports since 2017 were featured by hundreds of publications and quoted by prime ministers, ministers, and mayors. The report is available here and includes a specific analysis of Hungary on page 107.

In the 2020 report, Hungary increased by 2 to now be ranked at 37. On the city rankings, Budapest remains the only Hungarian city in the top 100, ranked at 87 after an increase of 2 places. Hungary’s other two ranked cities, Debrecen and Szeged, stand at 530 and 786 respectively.
Here is a table showing the 2020 national and global ranking of cities in Hungary, including a comparison to the results from the previous 2019 report.
In this year’s report, the company launched a section dedicated to COVID-19, which features cities and countries that have innovated the most toward solving the COVID-19 crisis.

Those rankings are built based on more than 1,000 projects added on our COVID-19 innovation map launched together with the Health innovation exchange by UNAIDS and the Moscow Agency of Innovations.
In those rankings, Budapest is ranked at 71. This shows the leading role Hungary is taking in creating innovative solutions related to the coronavirus.
